Day 8:
Back on the road again. Not the train this time, but back in the rental car.
I have a friend named Jesse who lives in the hills overlooking Chatanooga Tn. He works in Georgia which is 2 miles from his house, and goes to church in Alabama which is just a few miles away, although his church is further than that. In fact, he leaves for church at 9:30 am, and arrives at 9:20 am. Did you catch that? He arrives at church 10 minutes earlier than he departed (he lives in the Eastern Time Zone, and the church is in the Central Time Zone). He is right in the corner where the 3 states meet. Beautiful place to live if you like that sort of thing. He works at the Wildwood Lifestyle Center and Hospital. They offer alternative medicine like homeopathic stuff, very non-traditional. They also help people with things like weight loss... no, I didn't check in.
I drove 2 hours there, spent 4 hours at Wildwood, and drove 2 hours back. It was a great day, but it wasn't quite over yet. More excitement followed me.
When I got back to Bessemer, an inmate, about to go on trial for murder, had over-powered his guard, taken his gun & uniform, and escaped. He hijacked a woman's van, and held another woman hostage. All this happened near John & Melody's house. As of this post, they still hadn't captured the guy. There were police and state marshalls all over the place.
Melody made the best chili I've ever had tonight. I'm so glad I didn't stop somewhere on the way back to grab dinner. I know something else happened today, but I can't remember what it was. Oh well, it's late. If it was something real important, I'll add it to another post.
